Lewis Ground graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1885. He then studied law under Alexander Neill and was admitted to the Washington County, Maryland bar in 1887. From 1892 to 1896, he was Justice of the Peace. He was a Democrat.
