Francis Marion Clingenpeel

Francis Clingenpeel enlisted on 25 April 1861 in Kokomo, Indiana into Company E, 13th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, United States Army. He was discharged on 1 July 1864 in Indianapolis, Indiana, but reenlisted in June 1865 into Company E, 40th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Francis was discharged on 16 November 1865 at Port LaVaca, Texas.
Francis Clingenpeel's second tour in the military was as a hired replacement for draftee John Mann of Union, Indiana. It was a common practice during the Civil War to hire another to take ones place in the military.
