Beaudry named Volunteer of the Year
The staff of the St. Croix County Jail recently recognized Terry Beaudry as Volunteer of the Year.
Beaudry has been visiting the jail twice weekly since 2001 to help inmates prepare for their GED tests. Beaudry also helps at night with work release inmates.
Last year, 13 inmates earned their GEDs and 17 earned their HSEDs; both programs involve alternatives to high school diplomas. “This can be life changing, as many jobs require that you have at least a GED in order to be hired,” said Mary Gregerson, program director at the St. Croix County Jail.
The banquet was an opportunity to recognize the 110 volunteers who come into the jail for 27 programs. “It is our hope to have the inmates use their time productively while they are here and to assist them in learning new skills that will help
them when they are released,” Gregerson said. Some of the other classes offered at the jail are anger management, positive parenting, money management, job seeking skills, “Smoothing out the Rough Edges of Communication,” “Breaking the Barriers” (a cognitive skills class), AODA, AA, NA, a computer class, family dynamics, mentoring and
many Bible study classes.
