Jacob Griger Flanders
(6 Sep 1790 - 17 Feb 1870)
Jacob Griger was born in 1810 in NY. He was married to Mary Rice on 13 July, 1830 in Hardin Co., KY. They lived near Sonora, KY. In late 1848, they left by boat, going west up the Missouri River to Mayne City Landing. They arrived there in Feb. of 1849. They settled 8 miles north of Cameron, DeKalb Co., MO. Jacob then decided to join the miners in the goldfields of California. He left his family with a neighbor. He got as far as Colorado before acute homesickness caught up with him and he returned to MO, to find his wife had bore him a new son called Thomas. Jacob set up a lime kiln and made the first lime in that part of the state. He and his wife were blessed with six children. He died on Feb.17, 1870, Maysville, MO. Edith Flanders Dunbar's 1st edition says Mary his wife was born in KY, but no birth records can be found of her birth. Her birthplace is listed as NY in the DeKalb Co., MO. Census Records. Her parents were from NY. and it is most probable that she was from NY. Her parents are found in the same county that Jacob Griger was born in (Ontario Co., NY). She was b. June 11, 1811 and d. at Maysville, MO. Her death certificate says she was born in KY and this is possible, since the Flanders clan emigrated to KY prior to her birthdate in 1829. It is known that the Rice's emigrated to KY with the Burba, Flanders, Skinner, and other families They are believed to be the progenitors of the Flanders clan in Missouri. He was a veteran of the War of 1812 (Flanders, 31).

Death
Rosemary Hargrave has been to the cemetery and his tombstone says B. Sept. 6th 1790 and d. Feb.17th, 1870Burial
Rose Hargrave read in a Dekalb Co. book that 10 years after Jacob's death his body was moved to Delano cemetery in Cameron. She has been to that cemetery many times and Jacob, his wife and 2 daughters are buried there. The cemetery was named after Jasper Delana Flanders, their son, but thinks he is buried in Stewartsville. Jacob G. Flanders has a tall tombstone that comes to a point and they cost a lot of money back then.Endnotes
