Marriage
Fred Eilers of Columbus Junction has purchased the stock and fixtures of the Newton Variety store. He has already taken possession. He formerly conducted a variety store at Columbus Junction. He was married Thursday, April 28, at South Bend, Indiana, to Mrs. Rena Hicks. The marriage was performed at noon by Rev. Thomas Monger, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mrs. Eilers has lived at Grand Rapids, Michigan, for a number of years, where she was engaged In the sale of women's ready- to-wear. Mr. Eilers is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Eilers. He attended the Monticello schools and thereafter entered business for himself. Mr. and Mrs. Eilers drove from South Bend, Indiana, to Monticello last Monday. When within six miles of Monticello their car became mired in a deep mud hole. They remained in the car all night, and were pulled out by nearby farmers Tuesday morning. They expect to make their home in the flat above the store. Mr. Newton has conducted the variety store in Monticello during the past three years He has no immediate plans for the future.Census (family)
