David Hawkins Sr.
(3 Jun 1727 - Aft 5 Aug 1786)
David Hawkins, whose wife's name was Alice, died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, (then Virginia) in 1786. He was a member of Benjamin Logan's Company in Lincoln County in 1779. He was at Fort Logan.
David and John Hawkins names appear on the April 3, 1781, poll taken for delegates for Jefferson County. At a court held for Jefferson County on December 3, 1781, David and John Hawkins are on a list to receive 400 acres of land (Bentley 19).
On August 18, 1781, David Hawkins, Geo Grundy and Jas Samuel estimated the value of Wm Brashear's estate.
He signed his will on August 5, 1786, in Jefferson County, Kentucky (Jefferson County, Kentucky, Will Book #1, pages 20 and 21).

David Hawkin's will is dated the 19th day of August 1795 it was probated in Amelia County, Virginia February 27, 1800, however the will was proved in court in Amelia County on the 25th day of April 1799 and held for further proof which was given on the 27th Day of February 1800. David makes bequest to Aldridge Rudd, Hezekiah Rudd, his sons-in-law, to his son William Hawkins, his grandson Grief Ramon Hawkins and to Robert Tanner. Robert Tanner is presumed to be a son in law of David Hawkins. He does not name any of his daughters in his will. He does name his wife Elizabeth Hawkins.

In the Name of God Amen. I David Hawkins of the Count of Jefferson and State of Virginia being weak of body but sound of memory, blessed be god for it, do this fifth day of August One thousand seven hundred and Eighty six, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say, First I give and bequeath to my Son John and my Daughters Catharine, Sarah, Eloner, Ann and Mary the sum of Twenty Shillings each to be paid in twelve months after the Date here of. I give and bequeath to my Son David the Rifle Gun which is now called his. I give and bequeath to my sons William, Thomas, Henry, The Land and Tenement Whereon I now live in the County & State above mentioned to be equally Divided amongst them Thomas shall have that paret that lies next the Ferry with the ferry Boat to them their heirs or assigns forever. I give and bequeath unto my wife Alee the House called the new House during here natural life. My Sons William, Thomas and Henry, Shall give her every year during her natural life Fifty Bushels of Indian Corn two hundred Pound of Good Merchantable Pork and Two Bushels of Salt and that to be paid yearly with out fraud of defect and likewise her chois of one Cow out of .. stock the bay mare, an eight gallon kettle, the choice of the Cooking Pots with & Dutch Oven, the Pewter, Knives & Forkes, the hog which She and Rebecca claims shall be theirs with th Bed and Beding that she Commonly lies on Four chairs. and after her [dues] I give and devise the same goods & chattles to my daughter Rebecca. I give and bequeath to my Sons William, Thomas, Henry and my Daughter Rebecca all my Stock of Horses Mares Cattle & Hogs together with all Debts that is owing to me wheather Bonds, notes or Book debts, with the farming utensils, and the whip saw with such articles of household furniture as I have not bequeathed to my wife Alee with the broad axe foot adge Chisels gouges & Augers, to them their heirs or assigns for ever after paying all Just Debts that may be proven against me.
And I make and Ordain my wife Alee and Son John both Executors of this my Will in trust for the intents and Purposes in this will contained. In Witness where of I the said David Hawkins have to this my last will and testament set my hand & affixed my seal the day & year above mentioned.
