Death
J. Henry HeikenServices were held April 6 for J. Henry Heiken, 81, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Clifford L. Rogers officiated at the services.
Mr. Heiken died April 4 at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, after an extended illness.
J. Henry Heiken was born Oct. 15, 1901, in Castle Grove Township, the son of John and Mary Eiben Heiken. He received his early education in the rural schools of Castle Grove and Wayne townships. He later chose farming as his life's work.
J. Henry Heiken and Muriel Taylor were married May 29, 1924, in Anamosa. The couple made their home near Scotch Grove, where they farmed for 58 years. After he retired from active farming, he worked for the Scotch Grove Nursery.
Mr. Heiken is survived by his wife; for children, Jack Heiken of Scotch Grove, Mrs. Donna Strothers of Mount Vernon, James Heiken of Wyoming, and Mrs. Ruth Ann Corporon of New London; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Bernice Husman of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandchild and a sister.
Casketbearers were Harold Eby, Stuart Leggett, Paul E. Paulsen, Galen Kuper, Tom Streets and Arthur Husmann.
