Individual Details
Henry Eilert Husmann
(13 May 1899 - 21 Nov 1966)
His Father died when Henry was six. His Mother continued farming with the help of her sons until Henry was confirmed and he went to work as a hired man. He first lived with and worked for John Wolken who owned the neighboring farm.
After working for various farmers he got a job in Gildners Clothing store in Monticello. He than boarded with the W. E. "Pete" First family until he got married. Sometime in the 20's he and a partner - Jack McCrea bought out Gildners store in Monticello and operated it as Husman and McCrea Clothing store. When the depression hit the store had to close and Henry went to work for Stuhlers Clothing Store. In about 1936 he started in the insurance business. He was the general agent for Lutheran Brotherhood as well as selling car insurance. He shared an office with attorney Frank Shimanek above Stuhlers Store.
In November of 1940 the family moved to Grampa Heikens farm in the NW 1/4 of section 13 in Wayne Township. Here he continued to sell insurance and farm part time. Later he farmed full time renting other farm land from time to time. In about 1955 he started working at the Iowa Mens Reformatory at Anamosa. He was foreman in the tailoring division. This is where he died just two days before he was to retire. (Jon Husman)
