Mrs. Maria Heiken Honored Guest On Her 80th Birthday Tuesday
The country home of Mrs. Maria Heiken, in Castle Grove township, was the scene of a happy gathering Tuesday, June 9. At that time a group of 58 relatives and friends assembled to assist in celebrating Mrs Heiken's eightieth birth anniversary. At noon a picnic dinner was served to the honored guest and her brothers and guest sisters. The tables were decorated with attractively frosted cakes. A part of the afternoon was devoted to a short program, which included a talk by Rev. Arnold Thalacker.
Mrs. Heiken is one of the pioneers of Castle Grove township. She settled in that community more than 60 years ago. Her marriage to the late Albert Heiken was the first to be performed by the late Rev C Mardorf. Nine of her ten children are living. Eight of them were present Tuesday. One son, William, living at Camanche, Mont., was unable to be present. Her two step-sons were present, however. Mrs. Heiken has always taken an active part in community affairs, as well as the work of the Castle Grove Lutheran
church. She is a charter member of that church.
Those present at the celebration Tuesday included : Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Heiken and family of Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Warner Heiken and son of Anamosa; Mr. and Mrs. John Heiken and family and Mr. and Mrs. August Zimmerman of Olin; Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Heiken and family of Center Junction; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schoon and son of Amber; Mr. and Mrs. George Heiken and family of Cass township; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Specht and son, Anna, Fred and Carl Heiken, Mr. and Mrs. John Behrends, Mrs. John Jacobs, Mrs. Henry Null, Mrs. Fred Reuter, Mrs. Henry Behrends, Mrs. Will Behrends, Mrs. Ben Behrends Jr. and children, Mrs. J.
