Death
Sudden Death of Mrs. Carl F. Schatz.Mrs. Carl F. Schatz passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eilers last Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. During the past summer her health had been failing and in the month of November she was compelled to remain at home. Her strength gradually failed, and she was finally taken to the home of her parents, where she was cared for until death claimed her.
Laura Anna Schatz was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eiler. She was born June 22, 1894. In her early infancy she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. her home was close to Monticello, and she was able to attend the local public schools, graduating there from in 1914. After teaching in the rural schools of Jones county, she was united in marriage to Carl F. Schatz, November 3, 1915.
Mr. and Mrs. Schatz made their home upon a farm north of Monticello until seven months ago when they removed to Monticello. There was one child, a son, born to this union. It will be remembered that the child was accidentally killed by an automobile while coming home from school. The great sorrow of their child's death was almost unbearable for Mr. and Mrs Schatz.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, and four brothers, Herman Eiler of Austin, Minnesota; Grant; Paul and Irvin Eilers of Monticello; and three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Hansen and Elaine Eiler of Monticello, and Mrs. Lou King of Hopkinton.
The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Eiler yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, and final services were held at St. Matthew's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Both services were conducted by Rev. S. M. Ide, the pastor of St. Matthew's church. Burial was had at Oakwood cemetery.
Died of a "Social Disease" given to her by her philandering husband. (Heiken family notes)
