Granddaughter Garnet Eilers remembers...
"Looking back, many memories stirred in my mind. Grandma Eilers and her family, the Peters, were always laughing when they got together. One picnic we had at Pictured Rocks (near Monticello along the river). The table cloth was laid on the ground and was loaded with all the good food. Grandma Eilers couldn't find her pumpkin pie --- the wind had blown the table cloth over it. During the search, Grandma stepped on it, and when she did discover it, it had her perfect footprint in it! I can still hear the laughter. Grandmas's table always had those three bowls of her wonderful cookies.
Granddad Eilers was honored at one of the anniversaries of the Creamery. He was a benevolent co founder. The affair was held at the Monticello Park. Grandpa gave a speech about the beginning of the Creamery, I was so proud of him. He was held in high esteem in Monticello.
I did an oil painting of Grandma at the back gate. She is wearing the dust cap she always had on. I did it for dad (Grant Eilers) one Father's Day. When Elaine (Eilers) Heiken visited us, she recognized her mother when she saw the painting, and started crying and saying "Ma at the back gate.""
