Death
Willis HarmsServices were held Feb. 15 for Willis Harms, 55, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Gary Hatcher officiated at at he services.
Willis Harms, a longtime area farmer of Monticello, died Feb. 13 at John McDonald Hospital, following an extended illness.
Willis Harms was born June 17, 1932 in Wayne Township, Jones County, the son of Carl H. and Mary G. Lurkens Harms. He received his early education in the rural schools of Wayne Township. He later attended school in Monticello where he graduated in 1950.
Willis Harms and Ruth Kromminga were married Oct. 14, 1951 at SS Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in rural Monticello. The couple made their home in Wayne Township where they farmed the Harms family farm.
Willis was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Montiello, where he had served as a deacon, and on the Church Council. Willis was also a member of the Jones County Cattlemen's Association and the Iowa Cattlemen's Association. He also served on the Jones County Extension Council and the 4-H County Committee.
Willis is survived by his wife; three children, Jennifer Lambert, John Harms and Brenda Harms, all of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his father.
Honorary bearers were Ray Poppe, Clifford Helgens, Harlan Helgens, George Tobiason and Rex Rickels. Casketbearers were Armin Jacobs, Glenn Orcutt, Wilbur Peters, Kenneth Streeper, Glen Hein and Merle Dirks.
Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
