Her Funeral Will Be Held At St. Matthew's Church Friday At 1 O'clock.
The host of friends of Mrs. John Gerdes will be pained to learn of her death, which occurred at the John McDonald hospital Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Mrs. Gerdes had been distresssed Sunday, and her attending physician determined it was best that she go to the hospital for observation. An operation was performed Monday evening, and she died the following morning.
The birth of Mrs. Gerdes occurred September 15, 1880, in Wayne township. Her parents were Mr and Mrs. Garrelt Schoon. She was baptized October 17, 1880, by her pastor, the late Rev. C. Mardorf, and later was confirmed at Zion's Lutheran church, March 18, 1894.
On September 20, 1906, the subject of this sketch was married to T.J. Gerdes. Their early married life was spent on a farm near Barnston, Nebraska, where they lived until their removal to Monticello, February 22, 1911. No children were born to this union.
The father of Mrs. Gerdes passed away April 22, 1922. She is survived by her husband, her aged mother, Gebke Katherina Schoon, and six brothers, Hei, Will, Henry and John of Monticello and George and Hayo of Wayne township.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church. The services will be in charge of the Rev. H.L. Adix. Mrs. Gerdes' pastor. The pallbearers will be nephews.
During her active life Mrs. Gerdes was a faithful member of St. Matthew's church, and served as an energetic member of the Ladies' Aid Society. She will be greatly missed by her relatives and a large circle of friends.
