Mr. John Gerdes and Miss Myrtle Specht were married at the German Lutheran Church of Castle Grove by Rev. Nathar. Mr. Gerhard Gerdes and Miss Minnie Poppe were married by the same minister at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Poppe, in the presence of a small company of relatives. Owing to the sickness in the family of the bridegrooms' parents, these weddings were both quiet and unostentatious. These young people who have chosen to take life's burdens together, in a sensible way, know the value of labor and thrift, and they will be positive factors in the communities where they may make their homes.

Funeral Services for G. H. Gerdes, 56, Held At St. Matthew's Lutheran Church
Gerhard H. Gerdes, 56, well known Castle Grove farmer living fore miles west of Monticello, died suddenly at 3 o'clock Friday mornings from a heart attack. He had not been in good health for some time but his death came unexpectedly.
He was born in Richland township, Oct 12, 1880, and was the son of the late Ricklef and Mary Grumm Gerdes. He attended the rural schools of Richland township and assisted his father on the farm. He married Minnie Poppe, Feb 14, 1909, and two years following their marriage they lived on a farm in Wayne township. They then moved to to Poppe farm where they continued to live together until Mr. Gerdes death. He was a member and elder of the St. Matthew's Lutheran church.
Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gerdes, all of whom with Mrs. Gerdes survive. They are Mrs. Fred Rieniets of Lovell township, Lorna Gerdes, who is a nurse in a Chicago hospital, and Paul and Lois Gerdes at home. In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Gerdes is survived by six brothers and three sisters, William, John and Paul Gerdes, all of Terra Bella, Calif.; August Gerdes of Earlville; Henry Gerdes of Wyoming, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Oltmanns and Mrs. Louise Mucke, both of Terra Bella, Calif., and Mrs. Grant Eilers of Anamosa. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Gerdes were held at his home at one o'clock last Monday afternoon and from St. Matthew's Lutheran church in Monticello at 1:30. Both services were conducted by Rev. Henry L. Adix, pastor of St. Matthew's church. Mr. Gerdes body was laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery.

Gerhard H. Gerdes was born near Langworthy on October 12, 1880, and therefore lacked a few days of being 57 years of age. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricklef Gerdes. On February 24, 1909, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Poppe, of this township. They resided in Scotch Grove for a time but for several years they had lived upon the farm in this township where he passed away. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran church in Monticello and was a true Christian man. He was well and favorably known by a large circle of friends and was a successful breeder of purebred Poland China hogs. He was public spirited and had served as a director of the Farmers mutual creamery of Monticello and also on the board of directors of the Jones county farm bureau and as a member of the school board. He was fair in all his dealings and will be sadly missed in the community where he lived. He is survived by his widow and four children. Mrs. Fred Rieniets of Lovell Township, Lorna of Chicago, and Paul and Lois at home. His funeral which was very largely attended was held from his home at one o'clock on Monday afternoon and from St. Matthew's Lutheran church in Monticello at 1:30, the services being conducted by Rev. H.L. Adix. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
