Individual Details

Joseph Van Meteren

(5 Feb 1710 - )

A number of deacons and elders will be found among the different generations of this branch of the family. Joseph lived on the old homestead where Kreijn Janse first settled. The family graveyard is reserved forever for that purpose by the will of Joseph Van Mater. To this branch of the Van Maters, Monmouth County is largely indebted for the blooded stock of horses for which the county became celebrated during the first half of the nineteenth century. Joseph and his wife rest side by side in the Van Mater cemetery.
