Kryn/Kreijn Jansen Van Meteren

(10 Mar 1650 - 10 Mar 1720)

In 1663 Kreijn came with his widowed father to New Amsterdam. He took the oath of allegiance to the English government in 1687. Kreijn resided in New Utrecht between 1675 and 1709, as his name appears on assessment rolls. In 1709 he moved his family to Middletown in Monmouth Co., New Jersey. He and his wife are among the first members of the church records there. Kreijn died in 1720, but his will was not proved until 21 March 1729. Kreijn gave real estate to his other sons; to John he gave money.

A number of deacons and elders will be found among the different generations of this branch of the family. Joseph lived on the old homestead where Kreijn Janse first settled. The family graveyard is reserved forever for that purpose by the will of Joseph Van Mater. To this branch of the Van Maters, Monmouth County is largely indebted for the blooded stock of horses for which the county became celebrated during the first half of the nineteenth century
