Obadiah Eddy

(1645 - Aft 17 Dec 1726)

Obadiah settled in Marlboro and inherited his fathers lands in that town. He was admitted a freeman in June 9, 1683. Obadiah held various positions in Marlboro; he was constable during the years 1679-81-83-89, a grand juryman in 1682, a highway surveyor in 1692, and a selectman in 1690.
During King Phillips War Obadiah and twenty other families living in Marlboro were burned out and fled to Plymouth. They returned and rebuilt when the war was over.

Obadiah was admitted to the freedom of the colony, June 9, 1683. He was constable in 1679-81-83-89. He settled in Middleboro on land belonging to his father. During King Philip's war the houses of the inhabitants of Middleboro were destroyed by fire, among them that of Obadiah Eddy. After the war he returned to Middleboro and rebuilt. In 1682 he was surveyor, and in 1690 a selectman of Middleboro. He died there in 1722. [see note} His wife was Bennet-----. Children: John, Hazadiah, Samuel, Jabez, Benjamin, Joel, Mercy, Elizabeth, Mary.

Note: Obadiah wrote his will in 1722 but probably didn't die until after 17 Dec 1726, as he wrote a codicil to his will appointed a new executor since his original one had died on that date. As witnesses were sworn on 6 November, 1727, to attest to the validity of the codicil, he must have died before November 1727.
