Asenath "Lena/Arena" Skinner

(1784 - Aft Jul 1860)

Asenath Skinner Albert had to marry George Washington Flanders after 1810, because she was listed in the 1810 Census of NY as widow Albert. Her 1st husband had died sometime between 1800 1810. It was probably around 1808 when he died. Most widows with children didn't usually wait beyond 2 years to remarry if they were so inclined. It is known that George Washington and his father Jacob, and his other sons and brothers bought land in Western NY in April, 1816. They traded this and to Gideon Granger for land in KY and emigrated there around 1818.. She was born 1784 in Salisbury Twp., Litchfield Co., CT (was NY). She was the daughter of Elijah SKINNER and Mary ( ). Asenath died between 1860 in Larue, Hardin or Hart Co., KY.
NOTES for Asenath:
Asenath Skinner was married (1) to (____) Albert. She had two children by her first marriage. She married (2) to George Washington Flanders, circa 1811. They were blessed with several children. She was born in Salisbury Twp., Litchfield Co., CT., which at that time was NY. She and her husband and her their families emigrated to western NY. It is interesting that Zachariah Skinner, Asa Skinner, and Albert Skinner are listed in the same Twp. of Honeoye, Ontario Co., NY near the Flanders family and so is a Charles Hatch. All are families that were related or soon to be related to the Flanders clan. They eventually settled in Larue Co., KY, not far from the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. Asenath "Lena" Skinner Albert Flanders is listed in the 1810 NY Census as "Widow Albert." She appears in the 1860 Hardin Co., KY Census in the household of her daughter, Elizabeth Upton, wife of George W. Upton, ae.76 yrs. She does not appear in the 1870 Census and must have died after 1860 and before 1870. Her burial place is unknown. It may be that their bodies were removed back to NY for burial. My grateful thanks go to (R:1328), Mr. Robert D. Lawrence, who took time to assist me in locating the Albert connection to Asenath Skinner. He not only took time, he took it when he was trying to meet his publisher's deadline for his own excellent book on the Burba family.
