Old Rappahannock County became extinct in 1692 and was divided into Essex and Richmond counties.

John Bourne and Elizabeth resided in St. Mary's Parish, Essex Co, VA on 87 acres of land formerly owned by his brother-in-law Richard Johnson and which had also been owned by Charles Taliaferro and who continued to own contiguous property.

A John Bourne owned 100 acres in Essex County 1704.

Charles Taliaferro sold to John Bourne 16 July 1717 67 a "back corner" of land where Charles now lives, which Charles bought of Richard Johnson etc. (Katz 9)
