A MAD DOG
At the Knickerbocker Ranch last Wednesday a large dog belonging to the premises was seized with hydrophobia, foamed at the mouth, became furious, and throwing to the ground a little daughter of Thatcher Lovejoy, tore and mutilated her person in a frightful manner. He then made a dash for Captain Lewis, proprietor of the stage lines that center there, who was occupying the driver’s seat on one of the stages; and the furious beast made fearful bounds to reach him, but the Captain drew his pistol aud dispatched him.-- Placerville Democrat.

MINING NOTES.
The Placerville Democrat says: While plowing on his ranch at Greenwood township recently, Thatcher Lovejoy ran on to a quartz ledge which promises great things. Though little work has as yet been done, Mr. Lovejoy has refused $10,000 for the property.
