Death

Clara was born in the town of Cool and there she grew up, moving to Rocklin with her parents as a young adult. She married Edward Leonard Layton on December 10, 1907, and they resided in Roseville where he was an employee of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. Clara died at age 31 from Spanish influenza at the family home in the Cherry Glen district. She was survived by her husband, her children Edwin and Pearl, her parents, and her brother Leslie Lovejoy. She was predeceased by her beloved brother Milton just two weeks before her passing.

Death of Mrs, Layton
Roseville (Placer Co.), October 23. —Mrs. Clara M. Layton, wife cf E. L. Layton, Southern Pacific locomotive engineer, died Tuesday night. She was born in Cool, El Dorado County, in 1887. and married in 1907. Surviving are her husband, two children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Lovejoy, and a brother, Chester C. Lovejoy. Another brother, M. S. Lovejoy, died in San Francisco last week.
