Blake Barfield

(3 Mar 1753 - 1818)

I suspect that this Blake is a brother of the Solomon Barfield who married Sarah Crow, all of Wayne Co., NC. The ages rule out a father/son relationship. Blake b. 1753, Solomon b. bef 1765, a 12 year difference.

North Carolina Grant Sept 13, 1785 adjoining Solomon Barfield

From Barfield Family Genealogy Forum -
Beau Rhodes, BeauRhodes@email.msn.com - I am looking for information on:
Blake BARFIELD b. 3-3-1753 d. 1818 m. Mary ?. Had child:
Sarah Ann BARFIELD b. 3-5-1775 at Thunder Swamp NC near Grantham NC. USA. She died in 1844 in Wayne Co. NC.
Sarah married Soloman GRANTHAM.

I have a Blake Barfield of Dobbs/Wayne Co., NC...Newbern Dist: 1786 tax. Also NC Grant, Sept. 13, 1785 "adjoining Soloman Barfield". Blake & Soloman...1764 Pat. in Dobbs Co. on S. side of Buck Swamp. If this is your Blake, he was probably the son of Solomon, son of Richard & Mary of Duplin Co.
Blake was a family name carried by several generations in the BARFIELD family from Richard & Mary Barfield. Richard d. by 8 Aug. 1729. If you will look at the Census enumerations for the Colonial yrs. you'll see there were Richard, James, William and Thomas listed for 1769 listed in Bertie & Dobbs Cos, NC. The Richard Barfield family moved from Bertie to Duplin Co. & some showed up in Dobbs Co. Dobbs Co. wasn't formed until 1758 so more than likely, your Blake was born in Duplin or Bertie Co. & that puts him right in the Richard Barfield family.
There was a Thomas Barfield in Bertie Co. in 1757. 1723-1740 the following Barfields were granted land: Richard, Thomas, Henry & James. Henry is dead by 1728 so that lets him out, but he may have had a son that could have been Blake's father.
Maybe someone has researched Thomas, James, Henry, Soloman or William, the other sons of Richard & Mary.
By the way....Frederick is another family named handed down.

I'm looking for more info. on Frederick Grantham b. 1779 (s/o Joshua Grantham) and Charity Barfied b. 1777 (d/o Blake Barfield)and their children, Herring b. 1802, Barnabas b. 1806, Alley b. 1810, Whitley b. 1812, Dicy b. 1815, and Bowden Daniel b. 1818. Herring Grantham is my g-g grandfather. His wife's name was Mary/Piercy (?) b. 1811 or 1802. They had the following children before migrating to Pike Co. AL before 1836. Herring's children b. in Wayne Co. NC were Chely b. 1828 and Advinniel b. 1832. His other children b. in AL were Blany b. 1836, Young b. 1839, Hannah b. 1841, Joel b. 1843 (my g-grandfather), James b. 1845, Leonidas b. 1847, and David b. 1850. Any marriage, court, or land records for Herring Grantham would be very helpful in finding Piercy/Mary's maiden name. I think it may have been Bizzell, but I am not sure. Thanks for any and all responses. Please respond directly to my email address. Sue (Grantham) Wilkinson

I am seaching for a Supreme Court Case in Wayne Co. between 1817-1821 that shows a depostion made by Frederick Grantham (son of Joshua). I have an excerpt from that court case that states the following: "Question by Hood: What relation are you to Joel Grantham (son of Thomas)? Answer: We are cousins, our fathers were brothers." Frederick is my g-g-g grandfather. He died 10 Jan 1839, Feb. Ct. 1839 and left a will that named his children. If anyone can locate this Supreme Court Case in Wayne Co. NC and tell me what it was about, I will certainly appreciate your help. Thank you. Please send all responses to my email address. Sue (Grantham) Wilkinson
