District No. 2 had employed Miss Ellen Lavery to teach, but just before the opening of the school, she notified the Board that she was going to Colorado and could not fill the appointment. Miss Guizlo was then selected, but was taken sick. The board then appointed Miss Vanatta, who opened the school on Monday last.

Mrs. F. G. [This should be B. F.] Guizlo and three children, from Manchester, this state, recently visited the family of her brother, L. E. Duval, in this city. They went on to Elk City, to visit her father, and will return in about two weeks. Mr. Guizlo is agent for the Santa Fe at Manchester.

Mrs. L. E. Duval was taken very suddenly sick last Wednesday night, when her right side was partially palalyzed, but we are glad to be able to say that at this time she has partially recovered the use of her limb and arm, and it is hoped she will soon be in her usual health.

Mrs. Hattie Guizlo, with her two little daughters, arrived here a few days ago from Maxwell, this state, and are at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. E. Duval, being called here on account of Mrs. Duval's illness. Mr. Guizlo is agent for the Santa Fe at Maxwell.

Mrs. L. E. Duval died Monday night about 9:30 at her home, corner of Stafford street and Kansas avenue, from a stroke of paralysis, which came upon her about 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. About two years and a half ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which she never fully recovered although was able to be about a greater portion of the time since.
Mrs. Duval went to church Sunday as usual, and was feeling about as well as usual.
The deceased was born in Mercer, Pa., September 8, 1855, but when about 2 years old, with her parents, come to Burlingame, and had ever since lived in this county. July 6, 1881 she and Mr. Duval were married, and to them four children were born, one of whom died in infancy. When but 12 years of age Mrs. Duval united with the Methodist church, and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life.
Funeral services will be held in the Methodist church tomorow afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor.
The sorrowing husband and children, together with her brothers and other relatives and friends have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
