The State of Miss on the 30 day of December, 1863 Kemper Co personally before me the subscribed James W Hull, clerk of the circuit court of said Kemper co, E M GORDON, after being sworn according to law deposes and say that he is the father of Samuel J Gordon deceased who was a part of Captain R P McIlvaines Company, 24th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers commanded by Col W F Dowd in the service of the Confederate States in referenced? war with the United States that the said Samuel J Gordon entered the service in Kemper County, Miss on or about the __ day of July, 1861 and died from sicknefs in the hospital at Chattanooga, Tenn Oct 11, 1862 leaving without wife or children.
That the said EM GORDON make this deponent for the purpose of obtaining from the government of the Confederate States whatever may have been due the said Samuel J Gordon at the time of his death for pay bounty or other allowances for his services as private aforesaid.
