There were 2, maybe 3, Gordon families in the Williamsburg and Sumter Co, areas of SC. An Elkhana Gordon (also named as E. M. W. Gordon) is listed in Court Equity and Land records between 1823 and 1827 as the son of Charles F. Gordon. Records also list his other children-I haven't listed them hereā¦
Charles' will was probated 29 Mar 1822 in Sumter Co, SC- Bundle 40, p. 7 of Estate records for Sumter Co, SC.
A book on SC Naturalizations by Holcombe, listed a Charles F. Gordon being naturalized about 1783 in the Charleston area. There is also a Charles Fisher Gordon in the area at the same time that may or may not be the same, but be aware of the name similarities.
An 1840 census of Sumter Co. lists E. M. W. Gordon with 2 males 5-10; 1 male 40-50; 2 females under 5 and 1 female 20-30. She noted that the wife is the right age to be Martha who is 57 in 1870.
She can't find him in 1850 or 1860 either.
A written account of David Gordon says that Charles immigrated from Fog's Manor, PA after the Rev. War. Charles may be a brother to David.
