Esther Alderman

....In the year 1800 he (James Ward Smith) was married to Esther Alderman who was said to have been crowned with a wealth of titian red hair, the shade the great master of color gave to the hair of his madonnas. This young couple, James and Esther, moved to Allegheny County in Western New York. They lived there until they had acquired the asset of five sons ranging in age from six months to eight years. Here had also come Esther's father, Elisha Alderman, with his family, some of them nearly or quite grown to manhood and womanhood. (Down the Ohio in 1810, by Mrs. Lucy Rebecca (Smith) Hobson, 1933)
