Thomas Joslin

(Abt 1591 - 3 Jan 1660/61)

Probably born at Roxwell, County Essex, England, he was living at Barham, County Suffolk right before he emigrated to New England, as his daughter Mary's baptism is recorded there. He and his wife Rebecca and five children sailed for New England from London on the "Increase," April 17, 1635. They arrived in Boston by the end of May and about three weeks later settled in Hingham, Mass. where they resided for nineteen years.
Thomas was a public official in Hingham. He was admitted Freeman in 1636. He was engaged in commerce, owning several vessels that sailed between England and the colonies. He was also proprietor of land in Lancaster, Hingham, and Sudbury. In 1638 he bought land from his son-in-law Thomas Nichols. He removed to Watertown where he lived until 1653.
On Nov. 12, 1654 Thomas and his son Nathaniel Joslin moved to the new town of Lancaster where they were granted land. Thomas died In Lancaster on Jan 3, 1660-1.
