Wayne Woman Died Sunday

Mrs. Almuth K.. Poppe, 76, Passed Away At Home Of Her Son.

Mrs. Almuth Kathrina Poppe, 76, died Sunday at 12:20 p. m. at the home of her son Fred H. Poppe, one mile south of Langworthy on highway No. 161, after being confined to her bed for three weeks. She had been in ill health for three years.
The maiden name of Mrs. Poppe was Almuth Kathrina Dirks. She was the daughter of the late Harm and Engel Rickels Dirks. She was born in Hogelucht, Ostfriesland Germany, Jan. 24. 1861. She came to the United States with her parents when she was two years old, and the family home was first made at Pella in Marion county. When she was a young girl they moved to Wayne township, where she was confirmed at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church nt the age of 18 years.
She was married to J. Frederick Poppe at the Wayne Zions Lutheran church by the late Rev. C. Mardorf March 8, 1883. With the exception of four years on a farm in Cass township, Mr. and Mrs. Poppe made their home on farms in Wayne township. Mr. Poppe's death occurred March 4, 1932.
Mr. and Mrs. Poppe became the parents of eight children, two of whom, Herman and Engel, died in early childhood. Those who survive their parents are John D. Poppe and Henry H. Poppe of Wayne township; Mrs. John Fehners of Castle Grove; Will F., Gerd J. and Fred H. Poppe, all of Wayne township. She is also survived by three sisters. Mrs. Fred Doden. Mrs Harm Fechtmann and Mrs. Engel Schuette. In addition there are for grandchildren. Bernice, Allen, Arleen, and Raymond Poppe. also of Wayne township.
Funeral services for Mrs. Poppe were held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the home of her son, Fred H. Poppe near Langworthy and at 1:30 at the Zion Lutheran church. The Rev. John Willms, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Wayne Zions Lutheran cemetery.

Rites Tuesday For Mrs. A. K. Poppe
Funeral services were held at Wayne Zion Lutheran church at 1:30, Tuesday afternoon, for Mrs. Almuth Katherine Poppe, who died at her home south of Langworthy Sunday, July 25, at noon. The Rev. J. Willms, pastor of the church, was in charge of the services. Grandmother Poppe, as she was known to a great many loving friends, was born Jan. 24, 1861, at Hogelucht, Ostfriesland, Germany, a daughter of the late Harm Dirks and wife Engel. At the age of two years she came to the United States with her parents and for several years lived at Pella, Iowa. From there they moved to Jones county, where she had since resided. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church on April 6, 1879, and on March 8, 1883, she was married to John Fredrich Poppe, who died March 4, 1932. The union was blessed with eight children, of whom six survive their mother, two having died at an early age. For 46 years she lived on the old Poppe farm south of Langworthy, and had remained on the farm with her youngest son, Fred and family, since the death of her husband. She was a kindhearted, upright woman, and she numbered her friends by her acquaintances. Everyone who knew Grandmother Poppe admired her beautiful qualities. About three years ago she became ill, and her health failed until three weeks ago, when she became bedfast. Her death occurred at noon Sunday. Surviving are five sons: John, Henry, Will, Gerd and Fred, all in Wayne twp, and one daughter, Mrs. Anna Fehners, of Castle Grove; one brother, Gerd Dirks, and three sisters: Mrs. Fred Doden, Mrs. Harm Fechtmann and Mrs. Engel Schuette; four grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
