Mary C. Barfield

(28 Aug 1810 - 30 Aug 1879)

Census of 1860 lists her birth in S.C, the 1850 census lists Tennessee. The three Alford orphans of Ann Barfield Alford returned to New Madrid to live with their "maternal aunt", Mary C. Maulsby and are found in the household in the census. She must have been a Barfield. There are numerous family dealings with the Bancrofts, Hunters and Watsons. Her dates are from the obituary abstract in "MO. Obits, 1880-1-2, Vol V. seen at OCGS Library She apparantly had a mortgage on some property in Union County, Tenn. October 24, 2001: Upon further review in the process of identifying the various Barfields the following has become apparant. Ann Barfield Alford was a daughter of Frederick Barfield, born 1757 in Duplin County, NC and who removed to Rutherford County, TN. Ann and Mary C. Maulsby were sisters. Review of marriage and estate records of New Madrid County, MO reveal the following. George C Barfield died in 1834, his widow was Harriet L. Smith Bancroft Barfield. He had been supporting Mary G Barfield and his estate paid a bill to Hannaniah P. Maulsby for five years of board and clothing. Therefore George, Ann and Mary C. were all siblings and children of Frederick Barfield. I do not know the parents of Mary G. Barfield who was in the care of George Barfield and remained with his widow, Harriet L.Smith Barfield Maulsby. Mary C. Maulsby named my great grandfather William (after her husband's father) and Frederick (after her father).
