Mary Brown Cummins wrote in a letter what she was told about her grandfather: "His (Charles Milton) mothers maiden name was Mary Gonellah Thurstenberg She died when my father was six years old. She was drown in a well that had stone steps down to the water. She had been sick and was not allowed water so while the nurse slept, she got up and went to the well to get herself a drink, went down the steps but was so weak fell in and drown leaving the bowl on the top of the curb."
