Gen Joseph Thomas Rhodes

(1754 - 1820)

He left will in Duplin as did his father, Benjamin Rhodes. Mentioned in his will are: wife or housekeeper, Mary Williams ; son, James Thomas; niece, Elizabeth Bostick; brother, John Felix; nephew, Joseph; grandson, Joseph T.; nephews, Joseph Newkirk, Joseph Powell and Joseph Rhodes; brother, Jacob R.

He was elected to the House of Commons from Duplin along with my ancestor James Pearsall in Sep 1793. Apparently, he was in the House of Commons a number of years and the Senate. Another source reflects that he was a Lieutenant in the Eight NC Regiment and Captain in the Tenth Regiment of the Regular Army. Service in the Battle of Eutaw Springs, 8 Sep 1781.

Joseph T Rhodes of Duplin Co., NC, former Capt. in the 8th Reg. certified he's known Wm. King of Onslow; that he was taken prisoner at Charleston. King's pet. for military land warrant for Continental Line service. Dec 1818 - cd Nc GenSocJournals 1979 issue 1
