Marriage
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Albert Furr of Fort Mill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception July 18, 1999, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church fellowship hall, Fort Mill. The celebration was hosted by their children, Linda F. Manus of Weddington, N.C., Teresa and Terry Potts, Sandra and Danny Parker and Rick and Mary Ruth Furr, all of Fort Mill, and Carol and Larry Tate of Monroe, N.C. The couple have 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The couple's daughter, the Rev. Carol Tate, renewed their wedding vows. Ralph Albert Furr and Maude Belle Porter Furr, both of Pineville, N.C., were married July 15, 1939, in Lancaster by Judge O. Roddey Bell.Published in The Herald September 26, 1998
Death
FORT MILL — Mr. Ralph Albert Furr, 79, of 9944 Sherrill Lane died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Pineville Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Michael Bearden, Dewey Wise and Carol Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery. A native of Pineville, N.C., Mr. Furr was a son of the late Albert G. Furr and Ada Drye Furr. Mr. Furr worked for the Celanese Corporation and later retired from Lancaster County Public Works. He was a member of the Pineville Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his wife, Maude Porter Furr of Fort Mill; his son, Ralph Eric “Rick” Furr of Fort Mill; four daughters, Linda F. Manus of Weddington N.C., the Rev. Carol Tate of Monroe, N.C., and Terry Potts and Sandy Parker, both of Fort Mill; three brothers, Dewey Furr and James Furr, both of Fort Mill, and Ray Furr of Charlotte; three sisters, Laura Merritt of Charlotte, Lucille Stewart of Fort Mill and Helen Whitmire of Eutawville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home of Fort Mill and at other times at the home.
