Individual Details
Elvira Whitecotton
(15 Jun 1827 - 31 Aug 1916)
Buried in Helvey Cemetery, Reynolds County, Missouri.
It appears that the name Whitecotton was sometimes spelled White-Cotton and sometimes the White was left off.
Gregg Branum has done a lot of research on the Whitecotton family and has posted it to the rootsweb WorldConnect project on the internet. I plan to eventually import some of his data into my database. Anyway, Gregg has Elvira's parents down as Aaron Whitecotton and Nancy Hatfield. There is an Aaron Cotton in the Helvey Cemetery that would seem to match up to his data, and there's also a Raney W. Cotton whose birth and death dates come pretty close to what Gregg has down for Nancy.
Unfortunately, the dates for Elvira and William Merrill/Murrill that I obtained from Barb Meyers don't match up with what Gregg Branum has. The cemetery records seem to support the birthdate Barb had for Elvira. I don't know where Gregg came up with the dates for William or the marriage date.
Also, Gregg had her down as being born in Nashville, Tennessee, but another source I found shows her born in Campbell County. Gregg's file had most of her siblings born in Campbell County too, so Nashville doesn't make much sense to me.
