John Covenhoven was born in Middlesex County, New Jersey to Jan andJacoba Vanderveer Covenhoven. John Covenhoven married LydiaPredmore/Prigmore in Middlesex County and the marriage certificate isavailable in that county.

By 1772, John and Lydia Covenhoven/Cowenhoven were in Berkely County,Virginia which is now Martinsburg County, West Virginia. The plantationon which they lived was located where the Veterans Hospital now stands.

John Covenhoven/Cowenhoven died in 1778. His will names his ninechildren and states that to his son John he has left five shillings inaddition towhat he had already given him. This would imply that John wasthe eldest son who had already been given land from his father.

Son's Benjamin, William, Joseph and Daniel served in the Colonial Armyfrom Berkely County, Virginia and therefore have war records from theRevolutionary War.
