A John Covenhoven was in Bedord County, Pennsylvania in 1772. This wasadjacent to Berkely County Virginia (now Martinsburg, West Virginia).This John was very probably the son of John and Lydia Covenhoven.
Father, John Covenhoven had stated in his will of 1778 that John hadalready recieved part of his inheritance. It may have been land inBedford County, PA. where parents John and Lydia might have previouslylived before they were in adjacent Berkely County, Virginia.
John Covenhoven was on the tax lsit for Bedford County, Pennsylvania inthe 1780's and was on the 1780 Census. In 1789, this area becameHuntingdon County and John Covenhoven was on the 1790 cneus with six sonsand three daughters. His name appeared on tax lists, Quarter Sessionand Civil Court records, deeds and land transactions, from 1789 to 1798.
Other Covenhoven names appearing were Thomas, Daniel, Joseph, Jacob,William, Hezakiah, Nancy and Betsy.
John Covenhoven sold a large tract of land to Alexander Clay ofPhiladelphia to settle a debt in 1798. After that, there were no otherrecords fond there for John Covenhoven although there were recordscontinuing for Thomas, Daniel, Hezekiah, William and others. It is notknown if John moved or died.
This John Covenhoven was probably the father of the John Covenhoven whomarried Elizabeth Chesney in Kentucky in 1794. His other children wereprobably Thomas, abt. 1763, daniel abt. 1768, William abt. 1785 andHezekiah abt. 1786.
