Stephen Putnam, who fought in the early wars, served, 1777, in the expedition against Canada in Capt Elisha Whitcomb's company, Col Timothy Bedell's New Hampshire regiment. He was born at Sutton and died at Northhampton. He was brother to Gen Rufus Putnam and cousin to Maj Gen Israel Putnam.
