Pioneer Lonsdale Woman Died There Thurs, March 17th
Mrs. Marie Skluzacek, 96, pioneer Lonsdale woman, died on Thursday morning, March 17 at the home of Frank J. Skluzacek. She had been ill for about four weeks.
She was born in Czechoslovakia on December 27, 1858. She came to America at the age of 16. She was married to Thomas Skluzacek who preceded her in death in 1945.
She is survived by four sons, John, Thomas, Joseph, and Frank all of Lonsdale, and one daughter, Sr. M. Nepomuc, O.S.F. of Milwaukee. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
Three daughters, Mrs. John Hruza, Mrs. Frank Machacek, and Christine, and one son, Matthew, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Skluzacek resided on a farm one mile west of Lonsdale from the time of her marriage until 1924 when she and her husband moved to Lonsdale. She lived in Lonsdale until three years ago when she moved back to the homestead and resided with her son, Frank J. Skluzacek, until her death.
She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception church in Lonsdale and was one of the organizers of the Rosary Society. Members of the Society attended the funeral in a body.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday morning, March 19, at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Alfred Skluzacek, grandson of the deceased, officiated at the requiem mass. Also present in the sanctuary were Rev. C. C. Jirik of Lonsdale, Rev. Val Skluzacek, O.S.B., of Lisle, Illinois, Rev. Stanley Srnec of Veseli, and Rev. George Skluzacek of New Market.
Pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased, were George A., Lawrence, Alois, Rudolph, Edward, and Robert Skluzacek. Interment was in Calvary cemetery at Lonsdale.
Relatives and friends from Le Center Northfield, Faribault, Spicer, Lakeville, Montgomery, New Prague, Minneapolis, Mason City, Iowa; Lisle, Ill, and Lonsdale and surrounding communities attended the wake and funeral.
