Baptiste Smedley was named for his brother Baptist, who died as an infant. He was baptized 31 Jul 1609 in Wilne, Derbyshire, England. In 1639 he immigrated to New England from England along with brother John. He and brother John both became Freedmen in 1644. Baptiste married Katherine Hutson, widow of John Shorthose (Shorthouse) on 17 Jan 1645 in Concord, MA. His son Samuel was killed in Brookfield fighting Indians in King Philip's War a few days previous to Baptiste's death on 16 Aug 1675.
