Trooper Squadron A, enlisted March 27, 1916, in Troop C, New York City. Mustered in for service on the Mexican border, June 30, 1916 with Troop C, Squadron A Cavalry. Squadron A Cavalry was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas with the 6th NY Division ( 27th Division ). Transferred on the border to Headquarters Troop, Squadron A Cavalry. Squadron A returned to New York and was mustered out of border service, December 28, 1916.

World War 1, attended, OTC, at Plattsburgh Barracks, commissioned, 2nd Lieutenant, Cavalry, Aug. 14, 1917. Promoted, 1st Lieutenant, October 26, 1917. Served with the 6th & 2nd US Cavalry before deployment to France. He saw combat with the 2nd Cavalry in France. Discharged, Sept. 7, 1919.
