Captain Daniel Putnam

Captain Daniel Putnam and his wife removed to Cornish, New Hampshire in 1764, and spent the winter in a camp built for the use of men who had been cutting masts for the Royal Navy.
He entered the army during the French and Indian War at the age of 18. He was wounded. He petitioned the General Court of New Hampshire, declaring that, "in 1777, he was engaged as soldier in Captain Esterbrook's company, Colonel Timothy Bedell's regiment. That he marched to Quebec and was there taken sick and in the retreat from Canada lost all his clothes, to the amount of L14, was left by the troops and no care taken of him and he was obliged to billet himself and provide doctoring at an expence of L16."
He continued in the service, and was under Schuyler on the Hudson.
He was one of the first settlers of Cornish, and the first town clerk chosen there. He served in the Continental Army under Colonel Jonathan Chase in 1777 for three years. In 1781 member of Captain Moody Dustin's Company, 1st N.H. Continental. Selectman in 1784.

Captain Daniel Putnam was born 28 Mar 1739/40 in Sutton (2627, 2628). He appeared in 1790 census in Cornish, Sullivan, NH (2629). He died 12 May 1809 in Cornish (2630, 490). He was buried in Ccornish (490). He was married to Anna Chase (dau of Hon. Samuel Chase and Mary Dudley) on 25 Jun 1761 in Sutton (2631, 2632). Anna (413) died 28 Oct 1820 in Cornish (2633, 490). Daniel was born 12 May 1766 in Cornish (2638, 2639) He is said to have been first male child born in Cornish. He died about 1772 at Cornish (2640). He drown in the Connecticut River at age six.

Samuel was born on 28 Feb 1768 in Cornish (2641, 2642). He appeared on the census in 1810 in Cornish, Sullivan, NH (2643). And is 1820 in Cornish census (2644). He was in 1830 Cornish census (2645). He died in Nov 1843 (2646).

Mollt was born 30 Mar 1769 in Cornish (2647).

Isaac was born 13 Jul 1770 in Cornish (2648, 2649). He was in 1810 census from Cornish (2650). He was in 1820 in Claremont, Sullivan, NH (2651).

Sarah was born 30 Mar 1772 (2652).

(IV) Isaac Putnam, the fourth in line of descent from JohnPutnam, the American ancestor, settled in Sutton about 1722 on the farm whichin later years was owned by Oliver Hall and Robert Luther. He was admitted tothe church in February 1730. His name is not found on the records after 1740.He died in the fifty-ninth year of his age. No one of his posterity in known tobe living in Sutton at the present time. Deacon Palmer Marble, Mrs JamesFreeland and the children of John Waters, deceased, are hisgreat-grandchildren. His children: Phineas, born October 1, 1722; Asaph,September 11, 1724; Ann, July 27, 1726; Susannah, August 20, 1728, married JohnSaddler of Upton, January 1746; Nathan, October 24, 1730; Edward, February 5,1733; Isaac, November 4, 1734; Lydia, October 20, 1736; Daniel, March 28, 1739,married Ann, daughter of Hon. Samuel Chase, removed to Corinth, New Hampshire.
