Chas. Emera Moores, was born May 14th, 1857 in Eastern Canada and was, at the time of his death, May 7th, aged 63, years, 11 months and 23 days. His childhood was spent in Canada. At 16 years of age [about 1873] he came, with his parents, to Big Lake, where he was later united in marriage to Ella L. Putnam of Big Lake, and has since resided here continuously. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters, two of whom (Roy and Inez) have been claimed by death.
Though Mr. Moores had been subject to a weak heart for some years, still he had been a comparatively healthy man, till the early part of last year, when he had a slight stroke of paralysis, from which he soon recovered. On January 2nd, of this year year, he suffered a stroke affecting his entire right side and remained helpless during the 18 weeks of suffering that followed. One setback after another in his health, and the death of his adored wife during that time made things much harder for him to bear and when the Master said "Come Up Higher" it was a welcome answer to his daily prayer.
Taught in his childhood to revere all things Sacred and Holy, he early confessed Christ as his personal Redeemer, and "kept the Faith unto the End." The last one of his generation in his family, he leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Ross O. and Francis J., two daughters, Mrs. A. H. Moses and Mrs. W. L. Angstman, four grandchildren, all of Big Lake, and one grandson, Erwin K. Moores, of Robinson, N.D., besides many other relatives and a host of friends, who deeply mourn the loss of a friend and neighbor.
The funeral was held in the Big Lake Union church on Monday afternoon and interment was in the Big Lake cemetery beside his wife, who passed away on February 15th of this year. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Alfred Benson of Minneapolis, Emera Moores of Rockford, Mrs. Sarah Moores of Buffalo, Mrs. Isaac Moores and Archie Moores of Monticello and Fayette Putnam of Elk River.
