Harold served in 12th Aero Squadron from 10 July 1917 to 3 Feb 1919. He flew observation flights which was early intelligence flights to determine enemy placements. He was shot done on 30 Oct 1918 just days before the end of the war in Europe. He was attacked by german planes and shot down, He and his observer survived but were captured by the Germans. They were taken to various prisoner of war camps and released at the end of the war. I have his record and the record of his observer in the digital files, The observer said he was slightly cut and that Harold had taken a bullet to the head. But it must have not been too bad as there is little mention of it.Endnotes
