(20 Sep 1690 - 25 Jul 1761)

Not our John
John Branham, son of Richard and Alice Branham; born circa 1722; received
from his father the plantation and land "on which I now dwell"; (7) left a
will dated March 28, 1754, and proved April 8, 1755, in which he describes
himself as being of the County of Richmond and Parish of Lunenburg. Heirs
were his son, Richard Branham (certain personal effects and money for his
education); his daughter, Nelly Branham, (certain jewelry and money for
her education); "all my children", not mentioned by name, (to receive an
equal part of all the remainder of the estate, if his wife should remarry);
his "loving wife, Catherine, "(all the remainder of his estate during her
widowhood). Executors were his brother, Benjamin Branham, and William S.
Garland. Witnesses were Jane Steel and Alexander Alloway.

JOHN BRANHAM

John Branham, son of Richard Branham (1) and his wife, Ann Branham, was
born about 1690 in (Old) Rappahannock County, Virginia, and died in 1761
in Orange County. (2)
The will (3) of John Branham, dated July 21, 1761, was proved on
Thursday, Aug 27, 1761. In the will he refers to himself as "John Branham,
Senr." Heirs were his friend, John Lowen, (money); his "well beloved
wife, Rachel Branham", ("all the estate both real and personal during her
natural life or widowhood"); his "youngest sons, Daniel Branham, Richard
Branham, Gaydon Branham, Taverner Branham, and James Webb Branham ",
(to each an equal share of the estate after the decease of his wife). Executrix
was his "Well beloved wife, Rachel Branham" and executors were his sons,
Daniel Branham, and Gaydon Branham. Witnesses were Harbin Moore, William Games, and Margaret Johnson. Since the children to whom reference is made are called "my youngest sons", obviously there must have been one or more older sons not mentioned by name in the will. Other records give evidence that the two older sons were John and Nathaniel.

=================
John Branham was an attorney for the former Colonial Governor of Virginia, Alexander Spotswood. Spotswood was a prominent man in Orange County, Virginia and imported many Irish and German settlers to Orange County. These importees then worked for him and for others in exchange for their passage to the New World. John Branham married the widow, Rachel Webb Gower, on 16 March 1726 in Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia. His will was probated on 27 August 1761 in Orange County, Virginia and named his wife and his sons Daniel, Richard, Gaydon, Tavener and James. It's believed that these are the youngest sons of John and that he likely had previously granted inheritances to his older children in the form of land.
