BIOGRAPHY: Edward & Mary Polly did indeed go from VA to TN about 1792.
BIOGRAPHY: The first settlement in Johnson Co is said to have been made about 1770 on Roane Creek near its confluence with the Watauga by a man named Honeycutt (1778). Population about 150.
BIOGRAPHY: Edward Polly served for 18 months as a private in Virgina Line during the Revolutionary War. He, along with Joshua Mullins and William Buckner, enlisted in a company headed by Captain Burton, in a regiment led by Colonel Gibson.
BIOGRAPHY: They enlisted in September 1780, and were discharged February 28, 1781. Edward was transferred to a company led by Isaac Webb. He applied for a pension November 17, 1825. At the time he was living in Perry Co. KY. His pension, begun in February 1828, was $8.00 a month. When applying for the pension, he listed as property: 1 horse ($30), 8 cattle/2 pigs ($40), 8 sheep ($8), 4 barrows/16 pigs ($14), 50 acres of poor land, and owed to him the sum of $50.50. The total estimated value of his estate was $142.50.
BIOGRAPHY: After eight yrs in VA, Edward and Mary moved west to Carter Co., in Eastern Tennessee, where they lived for thirteen yrs. They then moved to Floyd Co., KY where they lived until Edward died in 1845. They were living in Perry Co., which was formed from part of Floyd Co. at the time of his application for a pension.
BIOGRAPHY: The part of Perry Co. where he lived became part of Letcher county when it was formed in 1842. Mary Mullins Polly applied for a widow's pension June 7, 1847 in Letcher Co.,KY (Edward had died May 19, 1845). she was living then with Randolph Polly, her grandson, and my grandson, and my great-grandfather. In her application she stated that she was married by a Baptist minister named Bailey, but that no record was made of the marriage. In 1994 I went to Pittsylvania County looking for information on the family, but I found no record of their marriage (At that time I had not yet seen her pension application). Mary also said that they lived in Pittsylvania Co., VA for eight yrs before moving west. *This information was compiled by Joel Logsdon.

Edward POLLY(3) (4) was born on 21 Dec 1758 in Halifax, VA. He died on 19 May 1845 in Ermine, Letcher, KY. He has reference number 164. Her brothers, Joshua and John Mullins, are named in Revolutionary War

enlisted in Capt. Burton's Company with Edward Polly. Joshua Mullins
made a deposition on the pension for John Mullins that his brother,
John, enlisted in 1779. John Mullins married Nancy Gentry in 1792,
Halifax County, and Henry Polley was the surety. A William Mullins Jr.
married in 1798 and his father William Sr. gave his consent.
In 1782 October Court, Wm. Mullins & Mary his wife, were Plts. in
trespass assault & battery. In 1786 November Court, Samuel Calland was
Pltf. agst. Wm. Mullins & Edward Polley Defts. In 1787 March Court,
Harman Cook was Pltf. agst. Edward Polley & Wm. Mullins Defts.

The 1787 Personal Property tax list for Pittsylvania County includes
Wm. and Wm. Mullins, Jr.; Franklin County has a William Mullans and
Charlotte County has a William Mullins. [1787 Census, I:459-460] If
one of these William Mullins is the father of Joshua, John and Mary
Agnes Mullins, it seems that it would be the William Sr. in
Pittsylvania County.
In the 1823 November Perry County, Kentucky Court, Edward POLLY was
paid $15 for keeping Mary Mullins for 1824. [Minute Book of Perry Co,

He died 19 May 1845.
In 1825 when he made pension application they lived in Perry Co, KY. In 1847 when wife made application for widows pension they lived in Letcher Co, KY
They had 12 children: Sally, Andrew, Polly, Agnes and Henry born prior to 1794; Then Raney, Joseph, Edward, Vina, Nancy, Susannah and David who was 42 in 1851.
