A new book has just been printed, the author is William W.Massey,Jr. at billmasseyii@prodigy.net called "MASSEY GENEALOGY 2000" and there it states that Joseph Massey, born circa 1690-1695, that his son John
Massey was born circa 1710. WILLIAM MASSEY JR. [billmasseyii@prodigy.net] Joseph2 appears to have been born ca. 1686–1691, will dated 19 Aug 1760, probated 26 May 1761. Although we have done little direct
research on Joseph and his children, we are nevertheless convinced that Joseph married twice, first around 1710, and the second time about 1730 to Elizabeth, his widow. [There?s an analysis of his will, too lengthy to repeat here, done for me by Helen F. M. Leary, Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists, of Wake Co., at the NC State Archives, Raleigh. For one thing, mother Elizabeth and her children in the 2nd group were literate, signing their names to documents of the period; all the daughters in this 2nd group were unmarried in 1760.]

Joseph's name appears on what is termed the Brunswick County Poll List of 1720. It was in 1720 that the county was organized. Gay Neale, Brunswick County, Virginia 1720-1975 (Brunswick County Bicentennial Committee, 1975) p. 327

Georgia Brown Notes on Joseph Massey, Sr., by Lisa Douglas: Joseph did not marry until he was 30 to 35 years of age. He was better at accumulating worldy goods than his brother. At the time of his death he owned several tracts of land in Brunswick/Greensville Counties in Va. and had nearly twenty slaves who were distributed by
his will. Joseph's name appears on what is termed the Brunswick County Poll List of 1720. It was in 1720 that the county was organized. In this area, Joseph married and reared a very large family of which and of the
descandants of which there is more accurate information than in the case of his brothers. No doubt the fact that Joseph became the most prosperous family member had something to do with such information. Joseph distributed among his children and granddaughter Charlotte were seventeen slaves.
His Will is recorded on March 26, 1761. He lived on "Cattail Creek". Will probated 26 May 1761 in Brunswick Co, Virginia Lists: sons John, Joseph (dcd), Thomas, James, daus Sarah Avent, Amy Avent, Rebecca Wise, Agnes
Richardson, Winifred, Lucy, Betty, Frances, grdch Joseph Massie Jr, and Sharlott Massie. Wife Elizabeth
