One of the most highly respected member of our community in the person of Patrick Mockler, passed away last Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. Mr. Mockler was born April 14, 1829, in County Tiperrary, Ireland. He came to this country in 1849 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Miss Honora Butler April 14, 1855. In 1858 with his wife he came to Iowa, where he has since resided, carving out for himself and family here on the prairies of the early day a most comfortable home and farm. Mr. Mockler was the father of seven children, five of whom are now living, viz., Mrs. Julia Martin of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; James of Manning, Iowa; Michael of Stanwood, Iowa; Thomas of Bismarck, N.D,m and Mrs. Nancy Doles of Manning, Iowa. Mr. Mockler died as above stated on December 2nd, at his home, three miles north of Stanwood at the advanced age of 74 years, 7 months and 8 days. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church of Tipton on last Friday. Father Gillespie of Mechanicsville, conducted the services assisted by Father Gallagher. Father Gillespie also preaching the sermon. And thus again ther has passed out from among us a kind neighbor, a loyal citizen and above all a kind dutiful parent.

Perhaps this marriage date is correct. There is a record in Alexander County but there is also one in 1862 there that would not work since they had children by then.==========
