James Putnam was born in 1689 in Salem Village (1190). He was baptized on 22 Feb 1690/91 in Salem Village (1191, 1192). He signed a will on 6 Jul 1751 (1193). He died in 1763 (1194). He had a will proved on 14 Jan 1764 (1195).
He was married to Ruth Hathorne (dau of Col. John Hathorne and Ruth Gardner) on 15 Jan 1714/15 in Salem (1196). This is the marriage intention. The 4th of Feb following the intention of marriage, Israel Porter, Jr, a cousin of Ruth, conveyed to James Putnam, Sr, the father of the bridegroom, three and one-half acres of land "on which his son James has lately built him a house.". This house was still standing in 1908, forming the rear half of the dwelling of Mrs. Perry on Summer Street, Danvers, and a few hundred feet distant from the site of the house of James Putnam, Sr. who had inherited the dwelling house of John Putnam the first.
Ruth is listed as "Mrs. Ruth Hathorne" indicating a previous marriage. Ruth Hathorne was born about 1686. (1197). Birth date is calculated from age 75 at death.
