Worked in a Cooperage Co with brother, WilliamHerbert served his apprenticeship as a Cooper with Shuters Chippingdale & Colyers. After serving his apprenticeship he worked for Henry Roberts Cooperage for 41 years until his retirement. On his retirement Henry Roberts gave Herbert 10 shillings per week pension.
Even after his retirement he was asked back when the second world war started as most of the younger employees were called up to serve their country.
