William A. McKenzie secured 160 acres of land in Ouachita County, Arkansas, on 8-28-1875 under the 1862 Homestead Act.This land is at the edge of the Smackover Oil Field and may have been the location of the oil business that G.G. Johnson supervised during the early 1920s for his Uncle Billy. The major part of the field was in Smackover, Union County, Arkansas, where William Chesley McKenzie, a neighbor of Green and Henry Hicks, purchased property on 11-1-1848. The relationship between W. A. and W. C. McKenzie is not known, however a William C. McKenzie also owned land in Autauga County, Alabama.
