Charlotte Ann Batty – fondly known as Connie to her family and friends – of Charlottesville, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2008 in her residence. Connie, a former resident of Lexington, VA, was born on February 12, 1928 in Lewisburg, WV. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude and J. T. Wright. After graduating from high school, she went to work in Charlottesville where she met her future husband, Harry A. Batty, an Engineering student at the University of Virginia. They were married for sixty years. They moved to Lexington, VA, where she was a parishioner at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Connie was a lay minister for the homebound, a CCD teacher, and served on the parish board and parish life committee. She was a member of the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Auxiliary for several years up until her death. In addition, she worked with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Connie enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Debbie Batty Rickman and spouse of Lake Charles, LA, Harry Alfred Batty, Jr. and spouse of Lake Norman, NC, and Jennifer Ann Batty of Arlington, VA; four grandchildren, Will Duke and family, Hal Batty and family, Justin Duke, and Frank Batty; two sisters, Josephine Taylor and Agnes DeFrance; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 in the Monticello Memory Gardens with Father Dennis McAuliffe officiating. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Dr. John Davison.
